Tulsa Shock, New York Liberty, Chicago Sky and Connecticut Sun win: WNBA Sunday Night Roundup

There were a total of four games played out in the WNBA on Sunday night with Tulsa Shock pulling off an upset win over the San Antonio Silver Stars at the AT&T Center while New York Liberty hanging onto the final playoff position in the Eastern Conference after defeating the last placed Washington Mystics.

Let us review the games;

1.      Tulsa Shock versus San Antonio Silver Stars

In the first matchup of the night, Tulsa Shock led by an 18 point effort from Temeka Johnson, managed to pull off an 80-70 victory over San Antonio Silver Stars. Ivory Latta came off the bench to add 15 points while Roneeka Hodges chipped in with 11.

Sophia Young led the way for San Antonio with 15 points and 8 rebounds while Danielle Adams contributed 12.

 2.      New York Liberty versus Washington Mystics

Cappie Pondexter hammered a double-double performance of 30 points and 11 rebounds to marshal New York Liberty to a come from behind 75-68 victory against the Washington Mystics.

Nicole Powell had a near double-double with 18 points and 9 rebounds while Essence Carson added 15 points. Jasmine Thomas paced Washington with 16 points with Monique Currie being the second highest scorer at 12 points.

3.      Chicago Sky versus Phoenix Mercury

The third matchup of the night saw Chicago Sky cruise past Phoenix Mercury 86-55, keeping their playoff ambitions alive. Eshaya Murphy came off the bench to lead the Chicago charge with 22 points while Epiphanny Prince added 15 points.

Charde Houston and Alexis Hornbuckle tried their best with 15 and 10 points respectively from the other end, but were let down by their team’s ability to make the most of their chances.

4.      Connecticut Sun versus Seattle Storm

Connecticut Sun fought off a valiant effort from Seattle Storm to carve out a 60-58 victory and remain at the top of Eastern Conference. Mims made her way to a double-double performance of 11 points and 11 rebounds while Kara Lawson led the scoring with 13 points and 5 rebounds, and also knocked down a momentum changing three pointer deep in the last frame.

Shekinna Stricklen came off the bench to lead the losing effort for Seattle with 12 points while Camille Little contributed 11 points.
