Olympic basketball 2012: Team USA almost falters against Lithuania - Examiner.com

In the Summer Olympic basketball 2012 competition, two days after blowing out Nigeria and scoring the most points ever in Olympics play, Team USA faced their first scare. On August 4, the U.S. had to fight to pick up their fourth win of the event, beating Lithuania, 99-94.

It was LeBron James who proved to be the hero in this game.

Lithuania led the game, 84-82, with 5:50 remaining in the game. Team USA took the lead back and James scored nine of his 20 points in the final four minutes of the game to help the U.S. pull out the five point win.

"One night you can have 156 points, and a different night the ball could start missing," Russia’s Andrei Kirilenko said earlier in the day, a very prophetic statement.

Other than James’ 20, Carmelo Anthony followed up his record breaking game with 20 and Kevin Durant scored 16. Chris Paul finished the game with four of Team USA’s 17 steals, along with seven rebounds and six assists.

The close call might be exactly what Team USA needed in Olympic basketball 2012 competition. It proves they are human.

"Shaq on the free throw line today!!! My bad USA,” Kevin Love tweeted after the game. “Good win for us. Needed a game like that. On to the next."
