The Oklahoma Sooners added three players to the Walter Camp watch list on July 22. Landry Jones, Kenny Stills and Tony Jefferson all made the list, given to the yearâs most outstanding player.
Jones, who also made the Maxwell Award watch list, Davey OâBrien Award watch list and Manning Award watch list, heads into 2012 holding most of the Oklahoma Sooners passing records.
Stills, who also has his name on the Maxwell Award watch list and Biletnikoff Award watch list, comes into camp as the only wide receiver on the Soonersâ squad with any experience. He takes over Ryan Broylesâ leadership role and hopes to help a team full of freshmen and ju-co transfers mesh quickly to help OU have a chance to compete in the Big 12 play.
Tony Jefferson is on four total watch lists, with the Nagurski Trophy, Thorpe Award and Bednarik Award as his other nominations. He led all Sooners in 2000 with four interceptions, although three of those came in the same game. He plays the same hybrid role that Roy Williams played a decade ago for OU.
There are 50 names on the Walter Camp watch list and it will be narrowed down to 10 names in November. The award will be handed out on January 12, 2013.
