Former Oklahoma Sooners running back great, Clendon Thomas, was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame on July 21 in South Bend, Indiana.

Thomas was one of 14 players inducted, a class that featured legends such as Eddie George, Russell Maryland, Deion Sanders, Will Shields and Gene Washington.

Thomas played for OU in the back-to-back National Championship years of 1955 and 1956. He was also part of the legendary 47-game winning streak. In his career at OU, Thomas ran for 2,156 yards, led the nation in scoring in 1956 and finished ninth place in the 1957 Heisman Trophy voting.

He played professionally in the NFL for the Los Angeles Rams and played 11 years with the Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers. He played defense in the NFL and finished his career with 27 interceptions and 10 fumble recoveries. He also made it to one Pro Bowl and was a second-team All-Pro three years.

Thomas is the 24th Oklahoma Sooners’ player to enter the College Football Hall of Fame, the most of any Big 12 school. The last OU player inducted was Tom Brahaney in 2007.
