Summer Olympics 2012 basketball: Team USA blows out France - Examiner.com

It was a big showing by Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant that helped Team USA open the 2012 Summer Olympics basketball competition with a big win on July 29. Kevin Durant scored 22 points to lead the U.S. to a victory over France, 98-71.

Team USA is looking for their second straight gold medal after winning in Beijing. The two biggest teams Team USA had to worry about was France and Spain. With a decisive win over France, it looks like it will end up as Spain vs. Team USA for the gold medal.

Team USA held San Antonio Spurs’ All-Star Tony Parker to ten points and France’s leading scorer was center Ali Traore, who only finished the game with 11.

Meanwhile Team USA finished with a incredible 25 assists, including nine from both Durant and LeBron James. Durant hit three of five 3-pointers and was a perfect seven-of-seven on free throws. Russell Westbrook scored nine points and James Harden scored five to give the Thunder stars a total of 39 points in the game.

Meanwhile NBA MVP LeBron James finished with nine points, Kobe Bryant scored 10 and Kevin Love finished with 14 in 14 minutes.

“We don’t care who scores,” Durant said. “Guys are making the right basketball plays. We have so many great passers and scorers, it doesn’t matter. I’m blessed that I’m a part of this team.”

The next game for Team USA in the 2012 Summer Olympics basketball competition is against Tunisia on July 31 at 5:15 p.m. ET.
