LeBron James, and not Kevin Durant, is set to win the 2012 NBA MVP award.

May 12, 2012 - LeBron James is the NBA's 2012 MVP -- at least according to a report by ESPN filed on Saturday morning. If true, which there's no reason to believe otherwise, it will mark the third time that James has won the NBA MVP award.

Despite winning the scoring title, Kevin Durant will not be named the league's MVP. Durant finished the 2012 season, averaging 28 points per game while leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to 47-19 record -- one game better than Miami's record. Durant also did so without the benefit of assembling a super-friends team, ala James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

Durant also averaged eight rebounds per game and three and a half assists per game. James averaged 27.1 points per game in 2012, to go along with 7.9 rebounds per game and 6.2 assists per game. By all accounts, James was a worthy MVP candidate.

MVP votes will be revealed later on Saturday.
