After dropping their first contest of the season on Friday night, the Oklahoma Sooners womenâs volleyball team swept the North Dakota State Bisons on September 1.
The loss on Friday came against the Northern Colorado, the host team in the Hampton Inn & Suites Northern Colorado Classic. Oklahoma fell in five sets, 2-3 (18-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-19, 13-15). OU sophomore Tara Dunn led the team in her first game of the season, recording 16 kills and 17 points.
The lady Sooners rebounded on Saturday by sweeping North Dakota State, 3-0 (25-18, 37-35, 25-21) to move to 5-1 on the season.
The big news coming out of Saturdayâs game was senior Maria Fernanda, who recorded 15 digs to move up the Big 12 career ladder into sixth place of all-time (1,755).
Oklahoma also relied on two freshmen, Kierra Holst and Julia Doyle. Holst finished with 16 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Doyle finished with her third double-double of her career, with 43 assists and 10 digs.
OU competes in the teamâs first ranked match-up of the season when it faces No. 24 Colorado State on September 2 at 3:00 p.m. CT.
