Connecticut jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead and never trailed in the game, as the Sun cruised to an 86-75 win over the Tulsa Shock in WNBA action, Friday night at the BOK Center. Connecticut led by 15 points at the end of the first quarter (25-10).
Tulsa shot only 21.1-percent from the floor in the opening quarter.
"That really was the difference, the slow start," Tulsa coach Gary Kloppenburg said. "We're just not good enough to have lapses like that."
Tulsa went on a 17-2 run in the second quarter to tie the game at 27, but was never able to take the lead.
Tina Charles had 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Sun, and set a team record 55th double-double of her career.
Asjha Jones also had a double-double for the Eastern Conference-leading Sun (11-4) with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
"That shows you why they are both Olympians," said Connecticut head coach Mike Thibault of Charles and Jones, who are both members of Team USA for the Olympics in London.
Tulsa was led by Ivory Latta who had 24 points, including 6-of-7 from 3-point range.
"She played an outstanding game," Kloppenburg said. "She got good shots and knocked them down. We just needed a couple more players to step up for us."
Kayla Pedersen added 10 points and five assists for the Shock (2-13).
Tulsa will host the Washington Mystics, Sunday at 3 p.m. at the BOK Center.
