Oklahoma Sooners Bye Week Quick Hits - Rant Sports

Richard Rowe-US PRESSWIRE

It is a bye week for the Oklahoma Sooners and we still have a tight-lipped Bob Stoops. Stoops has yet to give any information on the status going into Kansas State Wildcats week on safety, Tony Jefferson. Jefferson sprained his ankle early on in the FMAU game in week 2 and did not see the practice field at all.

Stoops assured all the pesky reporters that he would give an update on Monday. But in the same breath said he expects him to be back by then. The Sooners last practice of this past week was on Wednesday, giving the team the weekend off.

Senior Jesse Paulsen has been practicing in Jefferson’s place all week. Initial reaction: Jefferson is just fine. He will be ready to go for the Wildcats and the trainers are just being cautious as to not aggravate his ankle anymore.

As reported on Wednesday, the Sooners partnered up with FOX Sports to develop Sooner Sports TV. But the Sooners weren’t the only one to strike a deal with FOX. Texas Tech and TCU also inked similar set-ups.

The Sooners have a lot to work on in the coming week on both sides of the ball. The rush defense will get some help with Casey Walker returning to the line and with the Wildcats QB Collin Klein coming to town, it will be needed. The offensive line’s main concern going into next week needs to be more protection for the QB. Landry Jones has been sacked 6 times already this season and we are only on week 3. There has been visible improvement over the last couple weeks and not all the blame needs to be laid on the OL. Pass protection and play action are something that needs to be improved upon with the opponents only getting tougher in the weeks ahead.

Practice resumes on Monday as well as Stoops’ Monday morning press conference, so we should have any over-the-weekend breaking news then. Let’s hope it was a nice and quiet weekend in Norman.
