Day 3 of the menâs 2012 Olympics basketball competition tips off on August 2 with only four undefeated teams remaining in the competition. Here is the Olympics schedule 2012 for Day 3.
Team USA continues their journey to try to win the gold medal as the only team in Group A without a loss. Spain joins two other teams in Group B to remain undefeated.
4:00 a.m. ET â" France vs. Lithuania
France rebounded from their tough loss again the United States in their first game with a hard fought 71-64 win over Argentina. Tony Parker rebounded from a tough first game by scoring 17 in the victory. Their opponent is Lithuania, who also rebounded from a Game 1 loss by knocking off Nigeria, 72-53, in Game 2. Toronto Raptors star Linas Kleiza led his team with 13 in the win.
6:15 a.m. ET â" Australia vs. China
Australia and China are winless in the 2012 Summer Olympics so far, but that will change after they face off in Game 3 of the competition. After playing a tough game with Spain in Game 1, Russia blew out China in Game 2, 73-54. Australia played Brazil close in Game 1 before falling to powerhouse Spain in Game 2. This will be a close game, but Australia should pull it out behind the play of Andrew Bogut.
9:30 a.m. ET â" Argentina vs. Tunisia
Tunisia suffered a 47-point loss to Team USA in Game 2 to drop to 0-2 in their first trip to Olympics basketball play. Argentina sits at 1-1 after a tough loss to France after scoring 102 against Lithuania in Game 1. Tunisia has scored 62 and 56 points in their two games while Argentina scored 102 and 64. Manu Ginobili, Carlos Delfino, Andres Nocioni and Luis Scola are too much for Tunisia to handle.
11:45 a.m. ET â" Brazil vs. Russia
Russia and Brazil come into Game 3 undefeated in 2012 Olympics play, and only one will head into Game 4 without a loss. Brazilâs wins were by four over Australia and five over Great Britain. Russia blew out Great Britain by 20 and China by 19. While Brazil has Nene and a solid lineup, Andrei Kirilenko leads an extremely hot Russia squad. This will be the game of the day.
3:00 p.m. ET â" Spain vs. Great Britain
Many people expect Spain to face Team USA in the finals, and they remain undefeated so far. Great Britain has lost to Russia and Brazil in their first two games. Pau and Marc Gasol, along with Serge Ibaka, should prove to be more than Britain can handle.
5:15 p.m. ET â" United States vs. Nigeria
Team USA continues to roll along after a monstrous 47-point win in Game 2. They get to battle Nigeria, the second African team making their debut in the Olympics basketball competition. Nigeria beat Tunisia in the first game but then fell to Lithuania in Game 2. The menâs basketball Olympics schedule 2012 ends with Team USA, but it will not be a competitive matchup.
