The Oklahoma City Thunder lost their first game of the Summer League on July 9 to the Boston Celtics, 73-65. The game was all about the young talent, as Serge Ibaka, Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden are all practicing in anticipation of the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Despite the loss, three future stars scored in double digits. Second year guard Reggie Jackson scored 19, Lazar Hayward put up 18 and rookie Perry Jones III finished the game with 16 points.
"It's the first game, it's a process," said Summer League Head Coach Mark Bryant. "That's what it is all about, is player development."
Thunder head coach Scott Brooks sat in attendance watching the game with veterans Daequan Cook and Eric Maynor.
"This is just a time to have fun and try to get better," Jackson said. "Especially when you're a young player trying to get better in the league."
The game was the first chance that Perry Jones III had a chance to play with the Thunder since the 2012 NBA Draft. New signee Hasheem Thabeet did not play in the game but joined the team and should be ready to play their next game.
"Seeing what these guys can do throughout the week, seeing them get better throughout the week," Bryant said. "We're going to go step by step, getting them better and better before the season gets here."
