Oklahoma Sooners add another wide receiver to roster for 2012 season - Examiner.com

The Oklahoma Sooners football team added another wide receiver to the 2012 class on May 19, junior college transfer LaColtan Bester (De Kalb, Miss./East Mississippi CC). While the Sooners have been busy recruiting for their 2013 class, they went out and picked up someone new for this upcoming season.

This says one thing for the Sooners’ 2012 team. They are moving on without their three suspended wide receivers.

OU Head Coach Bob Stoops suspended Jaz Reynolds, Trey Franks and Kameel Jackson indefinitely on May 9. While no one was sure how long the suspensions would last, this recent signing makes it look like they are moving on without the suspended players.

“You’re here to go to school and to be a heck of a football player, or at least try to be,” Stoops said at the end of the 2011 season. “If you’re not living up to those obligations, you’re not earning your way. You’re bringing the team down.”

Kenny Stills is the only returning receiver with any Sooners’ experience and should be joined by five-star recruit Trey Metoyer in the starting lineup. Freshmen Durron Neal, Sterling Shepard and Derrick Woods are also candidates for playing time as well as juco transfer Courtney Gardner.

Now, add LaColtan Bester to the Oklahoma Sooners' mix. Bester (6-3, 200) played for East Mississippi Community College and won the NJCAA championship.

"It was about two or three weeks ago when I got to talk to [OU co-offensive coordinator Jay Norvell] the first time," Bester told ESPN. "He has been very honest and sounds like he is a really cool coach. He said the team needed more receivers. He told me I'm going to have to earn my spot and that nothing is going to be given to me. I'm fine with that."

Bester had 76 catches for 1,042 yards and 17 touchdowns last season, his first year to play the wide receiver position.

"I've known a lot about OU from when I was younger. One thing they always do is win," Bester said. "It's a winning thing at OU. And I want to help continue that tradition."
