OU soccer: Sooners knock off Northern Arizona, 3-1 - Examiner.com

The Oklahoma Sooners women’s soccer team came back from a 1-0 deficit to score three unanswered goals on Sept. 2 to defeat Northern Arizona, 3-1.

OU received goals from three different scorers in the game, with Zoe Dickson, Renae Cuellar and Amy Petrikin all scoring to help OU overcome a double-overtime loss on Friday night to UNLV. That Friday night loss was the Sooners third double-overtime game in the last four, making this regulation win a relief for the team.

"I'm pleased with the minutes we were able to get people from our team today and with three differing goals from three different goal scorers, I am pleased as we move into a new phase of our season,” said OU Head Coach Matt Potter. "Again, today speaks to the potential of the group and consistency will be key moving forward."

The Sooners fell behind early as Northern Arizona netted a goal in the eighth minute, but Dickson brought OU back to tie the game up before halftime.

In the 57th minute, Cuellar took a pass by Molly Richey and scored her fourth goal of the season to give the Sooners the lead. At 69:27, Petrikin scored her first goal of the season, to give OU the 3-1 lead.

"At times, the team performed with great purpose as we possessed the ball better and created opportunities throughout the game," Potter said.
