The Oklahoma Sooners faced a tough test in their season opener courtesy of the UTEP miners. Oklahoma and UTEP entered the half deadlocked at 7 a piece but the Sooners ran away with the game in the second-half. Oklahoma ended up winning by a score of 24-7.

Sooners quarterback Landry Jones completed twenty-two of his thirty-seven passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns. Oklahoma running back Damien Williams contributed to the team’s offensive effort with 13 yards and a touchdown. UTEP running back Nathan Jeffery led the game with 177 yards on the ground.

The most impressive receiving effort came from Oklahoma’s Kenny Stills who racked in seven catches for 130 yards and a score.

Oklahoma will need to take their game to a new level if they hope to live up to their preseason top five ranking. The Sooners entered the year ranked fourth but they failed to live up to the expectations in the season opener.
