A few days ago, I was just getting ready to write an article about the 15 man-roster, and how the Oklahoma City Thunder are getting ready for training camp. Then, I get the news that the Thunder have signed former Kentucky star DeAndre Liggins and former Knick and Syracuse Orangemen, Andy Rautins. Now, the roster is set at 18. Well, now my friend, we have ourselves a competition because there are only 15 spots on the regular season roster.
Via nba.com/thunder:
âThe Oklahoma City Thunder signed guards DeAndre Liggins and Andy Rautins to contracts, it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.â
Liggins spent last year with the Orlando Magic, as he played on average 6.8 minutes per game, and averaged 1.9 points. However, the 6-6 forward has a nice inside presence.
Rautins spent last year overseas with Lucentum Alicante. The knockdown 3-point shooter played for the New York Knicks two years back, but didnât usually fit into the rotation in New York.
The only we know from this is that there will  be a competition between Rautins, Liggins, undrafted free agent Hollis Thompson and Daniel Orton for that final spot. In my mind, that spot should go to Rautins. The guy is the perfect fit for Thunder organization, and can back up a guy like Daequan Cook. Plus, Oklahoma City doesnât have much dept in the guard position.
It will be interesting to see how things pan out in training camp to say the least.
