The Oklahoma Sooners womenâs volleyball team swept Air Force on August 31, 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-13). The win improved OU to an undefeated 4-0 record to start the 2012 college volleyball season.
OU won the match at the Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion in Greeley, Colorado on an afternoon where the Sooners pulled off four rallies of five or more points. Maria Fernanda finished the game with 16 digs. That gave the senior 1,719 digs in her career, eighth-best in Big 12 history.
Junior Keila Rodriguez led OU with 10 kills, hitting .233, while finishing with a team-high 14 points along with two service aces. Julia Doyle accumulated 24 of the Soonersâ 39 assists, the fourth time in four games she led OU in that category. Dolye also hit .800 in the match with four kills and eight digs.
As a team, OU hit .296 over Air Force.
OU took the first set, 25-17, thanks to senior Morgan Reynolds and Rodriguez combining for nine kills. In the second set, OU took a quick 7-2 lead as junior Eden Williams hit four straight serves. The Sooners took that set, 25-23, fending off an Air Force rally. In the third set, OU took another early lead, 5-1, and finished easily taking that set, 25-13.
The Oklahoma Sooners womenâs volleyball team returned to action Friday night against Northern Colorado.
