Pranksters Pull Fire Alarms at AMC 24 Theater in OKC - KTUL (blog)

Oklahoma City -

Pranksters caused a panic Friday night by pulling a fire alarm at a theater.

About 30 minutes into a showing of The Amazing Spider-Man at the AMC 24 Theater at Quail Springs Mall in the 2500 block of West Memorial Roadâ€"alarms went off, and lights started flashing.

"I kept expecting someone to come in and shoot us up," movie-goer Cynthia Kidd told CNN affiliate KFOR. "They came on speaker and told us to evacuate."

Alarms reportedly went off simultaneously in theaters 6, 7, and 8. Fortunately, they were all false alarms.

"People were really just getting freaked out, especially given the Aurora shootings," Ms. Kidd said.

Kidd believed the back half of the theater she was in was being terrorized by kids or pranksters. "It wasn't a good joke," Kidd said. "It was so crazy that there was so much police [presence] at the theater, yet people could still get away with throwing the fire alarm."

AMC Theaters said in a statement, "A-M-C Theater associates immediately communicated with guests and ensured a quick, orderly exit. Officers from the Oklahoma City Police Department were already providing security on site, and the situation was resolved within minutes."

AMC 24 reportedly issued inconvenienced movie patrons at the Quail Springs Mall location free passes.

This prank came in the aftermath of the shootings at the Century 16 Theaters in the 14300 block of East Alameda Avenue in Aurora, Colorado, early Friday morning in which 12 people were killed and at least 70 others were injured. The Aurora Police Department arrested 24-year-old James Eagen Holmes as a suspect in those shootings.
