The Big 12 released their preseason lists on July 18 and the Oklahoma Sooners have six players on the preseason list.
The first name is one that might ease fan's tensions when heading into the season with Kenny Stills as the only wide receiver on the team with any experience. Stills was named a first team Big 12 wide receiver, alongside Tavon Austin of West Virginia.
Also on the list is receiver Trey Metoyer, who is predicted to be the Newcomer of the Year. If Metoyer meets expectations, the Soonersâ receiver corps might not miss a beat.
Landry Jones will also have two first team Big 12 players blocking for him with center Ben Habern and lineman Gabe Ikard. Both linemen made the Lombardi Award watch list and Habern also made the Rimington and Outland award lists as well.
On the defensive side of the ball, defensive lineman Jamarkus McFarland and safety Tony Jefferson were also first team Big 12 players. Jefferson has also been named to the Jim Thorpe, Bednarik Award and Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch lists.
While the individual awards are nice, what is even better is that the Oklahoma Sooners were picked to win the Big 12 title in 2012. The Sooners have won seven big 12 titles, receiving 396 points and 32 of 41 first place votes. Newcomer, West Virginia, came in second place with seven first place votes and Texas took third in the voting.
TCU (1) and Kansas State (1) also received first place votes.
