Bob Stoopsâ Sooners have lost three BCS National Championship games since winning the title in 2001, but some believe Oklahomaâs sour luck in the big game could end this season. Oklahoma Sooners 2013 BCS National Championship Odds have OU listed as a 10-1 play to reel in its second BCS crown. The Sooners are also a prohibitive favorite, at 4-5 odds, to win the revamped Big 12 Conference.
Oklahoma, per usual, was a national title favorite going into last season with 54 lettermen and 16 starters back in Norman. The Sooners certainly fit the part of a BCS contender after jumping out to a 6-0 start, but things fell apart for Stoopsâ troops after an inexplicable late October home loss to Texas Tech. Oklahoma went on to finish with a 9-3 regular season record (6-3 conference), but it did throttle Iowa 31-14 in the Insight Bowl to reach double digit wins for the fifth time in the last six years.
With 17 starters, including Heisman candidate Landry Jones, returning to campus, the Sooners are again believed to be one of the top teams in college football. Oklahomaâs schedule is a daunting one, though, and the team will need to show a bit more toughness than it did last season in order to fulfill its promise.
OU will face difficult tests in Norman from Notre Dame, Kansas State, and Oklahoma State, and its road schedule also features potential traps in Texas Tech, West Virginia, and TCU. And, of course, there is the annual neutral site clash with Texas which usually alternates between blowout and nail-biter.
Oklahoma Sooners 2012 Schedule: 9/1 at UTEP, 9/8 Florida A&M, 9/22 Kansas State, 10/6 at Texas Tech, 10/13 Texas (neutral site), 10/20 Kansas, 10/27 Notre Dame, 11/3 at Iowa State, 11/10 Baylor, 11/17 at West Virginia, 11/24 Oklahoma State, 12/1 at TCU
