Some celebrities are big enough that they could spontaneously show up at a sporting event, get in through a back door and be given a prime seat.
That get up might not fly courtside for Thunder-Spurs. (Lynne Sladky - AP) On Thursday night in Oklahoma City, Lil Wayne learned the hard way that he does not qualify for that type of star treatment.
Late Thursday afternoon, Lil Wayne found out he would not be attending Game 3 between the Thunder and Spurs. So naturally he did what anyone would do in such a situation â€" he took to Twitter to complain about it.
“Was going to go to the Thunder game tonight but was denied by the team to be in their arena. Wow. Smh. Go Spurs!â€
To be fair, this was the Western Conference finals. And like every Thunder home game this season, it was already sold out.
According to the Associated Press, Lil Wayne’s representatives did call ahead, but refused to settle for anything less than a front row seat.
“Thunder spokesman Dan Mahoney says Lil Wayne's representatives did contact the team requesting tickets but insisted that he sit on the front row, and none of those seats was available. Oklahoma City sold out every home game during the regular season and playoffs this season. Mahoney says: ‘We'd love to have him at a game, but like anyone else, he needs a ticket.’â€
Lil Wayne did land prime seats to Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals and he’ll likely be on hand for one or two more playoff contests. (Start the countdown to San Antonio’s public invitation to Game 5 now.)
The Thunder may have lost one high-profile fan, but they won the game, which gives Lil Wayne at least two more opportunities to catch them live â€" but only if he agrees to wear one of those bright blue or white shirts everyone else in the building has been sporting. Red and black plaid pants don’t really fit with the OKC color scheme.
