May 15Decisions on income tax reduction and a state budget...
The legislature is required to finish its session by 5 p.m. on the last Friday in May, or a week from this Friday.
Lawmakers started the session talking about eliminating numerous tax breaks and making significant cuts in the personal income tax rate. They have been unable to reach consensus on the former and have been forced to scale back plans for the latter.
Another issue in the news this week involves dogs and veterinarians. Drought-like conditions kept fleas somewhat in check last year, but after a mild winter and a wet spring, the little pests are back with a vengeance. And, the Oklahoma City Thunder continues to make a strong playoff run. After sweeping the Dallas Mavericks, the Thunder routed the Los Angeles Lakers in game one of their second-round series Monday. Wednesday is game two in Oklahoma City, before the series goes to Los Angeles for back-to-back games Friday and Saturday.
