As first reported by Norman's Dean Blevins, former Arizona Wildcats coach Mike Stoops will be reunited with his brother Bob Stoops on the Oklahoma Sooners coaching staff, Joe Schad confirmed Wednesday. He'll reportedly take over as co-defensive coordinator, with Willie Martinez' exit making room on the staff.
Stoops coached at OU as an assistant from 1999 to 2003 before getting the Wildcats job. He had a 41-50 record as a head coach, but his time in Norman included a national championship. He's also coached on the Kansas St. Wildcats and Iowa Hawkeyes staffs.
Shortly after he left Arizona, brother Bob said he'd welcome Mike back to OU. There was a brief series of overtures between Stoops the younger and new Ohio St. Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer, but North Carolina Tar Heels interim coach Everett Withers ended up taking the OSU gig.
