The Oklahoma City Thunder are going to check in on several free agents as they figure out what to do with their own rotation of players as well as survey the FA landscape, and the team is apparently checking out multiple big men as they consider options other than Nazr Mohammed in the middle.
Orton would be coming home if he were to sign with the Thunder since he's an Oklahoma native. He was the first round pick of the Orlando Magic in 2010, but unfortunately suffered a season-ending injury in just his second game in the NBDL his rookie year. This last season, Orton came back and played in 16 games with the Magic. Thus the former Kentucky player's experience is limited and it's hard to tell just what the Thunder would be getting by bringing in Orton.
If anything, a team that is checking in on Orton and Thabeet is apparently interested in low-risk, high-ceiling big men. There's little harm in doing the research, and the Thunder are apparently doing just that early on in the NBA free agency period.
