Amidst the rumors that the Oklahoma City Thunder were considering letting head coach Scott Brooks walk away for someone like Phil Jackson, General Manager Sam Presti called it ridiculous. Now, NewsOK reported on June 28 that the Thunder have offered Brooks a four year contract.
This offer comes on the day of the 2012 NBA Draft, where the Thunder once again have only one pick, at the 28th position of the first round. Last season, the Thunder also only had one pick and chose point guard Reggie Jackson.
Brooks, whose contract expires on Saturday, June 30, was a priority for Presti as he looks to the future. Once Brooks resigns, there are some players that Presti will need to deal with, specifically James Harden and Serge Ibaka. Presti said he has no problem going over the cap and paying the luxury tax if allowed by ownership.
Of course, the contract is not a done deal yet, as the two sides are still negotiating contract numbers. Rumors have swirled that Brooks is a candidate for the Portland Trail Blazers job but there is little chance the Thunder will let the man who brought them to the NBA Finals go to a division rival.
Brooks record as head coach is 299-174.
