Olympic results 2012: Men's basketball quarterfinal winners - Examiner.com

There are three more games left in the 2012 Summer Olympics after the results of the quarterfinal matchups on August 8. Four teams head home while the remaining four battle for three medals. Heading into the final rounds, there are still four members of the Oklahoma City Thunder fighting for medals.

Here is a look at the games from the quarterfinals.

Russia beat Lithuania: Russia might be the most surprising team in the 2012 Summer Olympic basketball competition. They knocked off Spain in the Group Play, and if not for a surprising loss to Brazil, would head into the semifinals undefeated along with Team USA. Russia beat Lithuania, 83-74, led by NBA star Andrei Kirilenko’s double-double, with 19 points and 13 rebounds.

Spain beat France: Despite coming into the quarterfinals on a two-game losing streak, Spain beat France, 66-59. Marc Gasol led the way with 14 points while Pau Gasol had a double-double, with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Spain also beat France in the EuroBasket Championship.

Argentina beat Brazil: Brazil knocked off Spain in the Group Play but could not continue their hot streak into the quarterfinals. Argentina played strong, winning the game, 82-77. Manu Ginobili led the team with 16 points the team heads into the semifinals looking to upset Team USA.

Team USA beat Australia: Believe it or now, Australia kept it close through three quarters. However, Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant said that Kobe Bryant got mad, and that was all it took to pull out a 35-16 fourth quarter for a 33-point win. Bryant scored 20 while LeBron James finished with a triple-double, with 11 points, 11 assists and 14 rebounds.

The semifinals take place on Friday, August 10.
