The Oklahoma City Thunder have the Flaming Lips on their side. I am not sure if that is a good or bad thing.Â
Let's begin by saying we love the Flaming Lipsâ"but I'm not so sure this latest works as a team song. Being that it's Memorial Day and the positive vibes of barbecues around the neighborhood have me in a chipper mood, I will say that it has its moments.Â
See, I'm not always grumpy.Â
The video features the new song, "Thunder Up: Race for the Prize." It starts off far too slow for a rally call and one that comes near the NBA Finals.Â
The verses are also not befitting of the team's amped and manic playing style, but I'll bite when it comes to the chorus.Â
The Flaming Lips redid their 1999 hit âRace for the Prize" to make a jingle all of OKC can get behind. I can hear that in the incessant "Thunder Up" of the chorus.Â
I can imagine all of Chesapeake Energy Arena stomping and hollering to this jam as Russell Westbrook drains another circus shot or Kevin Durant closes out a game.Â
What say you Internet?
How do you think this works as a rock anthem for the Thunder? I need to hear it with the complement of thousands of blue-shirted Thunder fanatics.Â
Make it happen OKC.Â
