A Friday rainout led to a Saturday doubleheader in Norman, Oklahoma for No. 2 Baylor, and Sunday the Bears will be hoping to return to Waco with one win. Baylor's perfect Big 12 record and nine-series win streak were both snapped on Saturday afternoon, as the Oklahoma Sooners took both games by scores of 1-0 and 2-1.
In Game One, neither team could push even one run across in regular time. Josh Turley threw seven shutout innings for the Bears (39-10, 18-2), but Jordan John responded with 8.2 no-run innings of his own for Oklahoma (32-19, 12-10). Dillon Newman took the loss for Baylor after giving up the winning run in the 10th. Nathan Orf had the only extra base hit for Baylor, a double in the third.
The Baylor offense didn't come again in the nightcap until the eighth inning, when consecutive bunt singles led to an RBI for Orf-who also broke the Baylor single-season record for getting hit by pitches in this game-but Oklahoma pitching prevented a further rally. Trent Blank lost his first decision of the year, despite throwing eight innings for a complete game loss in which he allowed two runs and six hits.
Baylor had not lost a game started by either Turley or Blank this year.
The Bears look to take one game at 1 p.m. CDT Sunday. Baylor will start Tyler Bremer against Oklahoma's Dillon Overton. The game is slated for television on Fox College Sports Central.
