In just some quick NBA Free Agent news, former Kentucky Wildcat one-and-doner Daniel Orton and the Oklahoma City Thunder have been expressing mutual interest in signing a deal.  The deal is not exactly a sure thing, but both sides have expressed interest in continuing the talks and finalizing a deal to sign Orton as an unrestricted free agent.  Orton was picked with the #29 pick in the 2010 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic, but didn’t see much playing time in Orlando over his two years there.  Orton’s first year was cut short as he played just a few games in the D-League for the New Mexico Thunderbirds before he reaggravated a previous knee injury costing him to sit out the rest of the 2010-2011 season.  In Orton’s second year in Orlando  he played in 16 games, starting two of those due to multiple injuries on the Orlando Magic roster.  Orton averaged 2.8 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 0.6 blocks per game in 11.7 minutes per game.  The Magic are not expected to pick up the option on Orton’s contract for the third and fourth years of the contract, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Daniel Orton’s hometown is Oklahoma City, making the Thunder a great choice for him as a homecoming of sorts.  Orton would not get a lot of playing time right away, but could fill in for Serge Ibaka and Kendrick Perkins in times of need.  The Oklahoma City Thunder also are looking to resign former Kentucky Wildcat Nazr Mohammed, which would give Orton a veteran to work under for a year or two to improve his low post offensive and defensive game.
