The Oklahoma Sooners rebounded from a tough loss to Colorado State to beat the Arkansas Razorbacks, 3-1, on Sept. 4. Along the way, the Sooners' women matched an OU record with eight service aces.
The Sooners beat Arkansas in four sets (25-19, 18-25, 27-25, 25-18) to improve to 6-2 on the young season.
The OU record for service aces came at the hands of sophomore Tara Dunn and freshman Julia Doyle, who each finished with three, and junior Kiela Rodriguez, who added two of her own. The record was for most services aces in a four set match.
Maria Fernanda continued her remarkable collegiate career, with 23 digs, a season high. It was her third 20-plus dig performance of her senior year. Fernanda took over sole position of sixth place in Big 12 history for career digs in the Soonersâ loss on Sunday to Colorado State.
Senior Morgan Reynolds led the Sooners with 13 kills while junior Sallie McLaurin followed with 11. McLaurin also connected on 11 of 22 swings and finished the match with a .364 hitting percentage. She also added eight blocks on the night.
Next up for the OU volleyball team is the Ameritas Player Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., Thursday through Saturday. The Sooners take on No. 1 Nebraska on Sept. 6, No. 19 Kentucky on Sept. 7 and Duquesne on Sept. 8.
