Oklahoma City reacts to Oklahoma City Thunder Shooting - Examiner.com

The Oklahoma City Thunder victory over the Los Angeles Lakers was marred by a shooting Monday night. Nine people were injured; eight were shot and a pregnant woman was treated for blunt force trauma.

“This is the last thing Oklahoma City needs now,” Bill Macon, an Oklahoma City resident, said. “We are finally getting on the map and this only makes our city look bad. We aren’t like other big cities, despite this incident.”

“Oklahoma City is better than this,” Mick Brady, from Mustang, said. “When a city starts running with the big boys and getting pro sports, you can expect big city problems. Hopefully, Oklahoma City will remember it’s roots and stop the violence before it gets out of hand.

Two the victims were taken to local hospitals in the Oklahoma City area in critical condition. The others had non-life threatening injuries and are expected to make full recoveries. The expectant mother was either punched or kicked.

“I’m not surprised by this at all,” Mac Kemp, an Oklahoma City Thunder fan, said. “Thunder Alley was a bad idea. All those people in one area, drinking and probably arguing about the game is not safe. I’m surprised something like this [shooting] has happened before.”

“I’ve felt relatively safe in Bricktown, even on game night,” Sandy Peete, an Oklahoma City Thunder fan, said. “I never go alone and I pay attention. That won’t stop a stray bullet though. I don’t think I’ll be going back to Thunder Alley any time soon.”

Despite the crowd of thousands, emergency responders were able to get to the victims quickly. The Oklahoma City police even arrested two people believed to have taken part in the shooting.

“I’ve never gone to a Thunder game,” Lisa Davis, another Oklahoma City Thunder fan, said. “I would never consider hanging out in Thunder Alley. Even if there wasn’t the possibility of a shooting, the crowd is too big. I’m surprised the police were able to find the people responsible.”

“I think our police did a great job,” Toby Willis, a college student from Oklahoma City, said. “They had to be on the ball to make two arrests. I know there is a lot of police officers in Bricktown, especially on the weekends and when the [Oklahoma City] Thunder is playing. Maybe they’ll add more. It certainly can’t hurt.”

There is still an ongoing investigation of the shooting after the Oklahoma City Thunder game in Bricktown. Police are still interviewing potential witnesses. Anyone with information regarding the Oklahoma City Thunder shooting in Bricktown is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at (405) 235-7300.
