Los Angeles Lakers fall to Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 5; West finals set - SportingNews.com

Russell Westbrook scored 28 points and Kevin Durant added 25 to lead the Oklahoma City Thunder to a clinching 106-90 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday in their Western Conference semifinal series.

The Thunder will meet the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference finals, which will begin Sunday.

Kobe Bryant scored 42 points on 18-of-33 shooting for the Lakers, who were ousted in the second round for a second consecutive season. L.A. was eliminated by the Dallas Mavericks last season.

Lakers forward Metta World Peace was involved in another controversial play involving the Thunder. He was charged with a flagrant foul as he defended a layup attempt by Thabo Sefolosha in the second quarter. World Peace was later assessed a technical foul for arguing the call.

Last month, World Peace was suspended seven games by the NBA for elbowing the Thunder's James Harden in the head during a regular-season game.

Westbrook had a pair of three-point plays during a 14-3 burst that put Oklahoma City ahead to stay late in the third quarter, and Durant hit two 3-pointers as the Thunder scored the first 10 points of the fourth to push their lead to 93-77.
