Derek Fisher said he has "no plans" to retire after the season.
May 29, 2012 - Oklahoma City Thunder guard Derek Fisher turns 38 years old this year, and with five championship rings already to his name, nobody would blame him if he decided this summer was a good time to stop playing. However, it appears he has plans to continue his playing career beyond this season, telling Darnell Mayberry of the Oklahoman that he has "no plans" to retire.
Fisher is a free agent after the season, so if he continues his career it will likely be with another team. The Thunder, needing a backup to Russell Westbrook after the season-ending injury to Eric Maynor, acquired him off waivers after he was dealt from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Houston Rockets at the trade deadline. The Rockets bought out Fisher, freeing him to sign with any team other than the Lakers.
Fisher is also the president of the NBA Players Association. He has two years remaining on his contract in that role.
